Here’s a list of the top 5 lessons I’ve learned from all my years of experience at the podium:n n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n <font style=”color: rgb(255, 42, 173);”> n <b> n n Really Know Who I’m Talking Ton n </b> n </font> n </div> n <div> n n It’s so important to know and understand the audience you’re speaking to. It would be pointless to talk with someone who has no interest in science about astrophysics. Not only would it not make any sense to this person, but it would bore them as well. We want to excite our audience even if we’re trying to educate them, but the best way to do that is by knowing how to get (and keep) their attention.n n </div> n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n <b> n <font style=”color: rgb(249, 30, 165);”> n n Research is Keyn n </font> n </b> n </div> n <div> n n As a professional, I’ve learned that the best way to truly know your audience is through research and by asking them questions. I’ve done this by simply talking with people while I’m in the planning phase, asking them what problems they’ve encountered that I may have the answers to, and go from there. I’ve learned to gather the research and put in the work so that way my message resonates with them. Through trial and error, I’ve been able to form not only motivational speeches, but captivating pitches, content, and my entire coaching practice around helping my audience!n n </div> n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n n Not only this, but I’ve also learned to hone in my deductive reasoning skills; to have a point, research it, build a case, and stand on it. Research really does come in handy when it comes to delivering a quality speech worth listening to.n n </div> n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n <font style=”color: rgb(255, 42, 173);”> n <b> n n Body Language is Importantn n </b> n </font> n </div> n <div> n n It’s amazing how much of our communication is non-verbal! When a speaker is up on stage or in front of a camera, it’s easy to spot whether or not he or she is nervous, confident, passionate, or even upset simply by the way that person is carrying themselves. I’ve learned in every situation that tone, posture, and facial expressions carry further than I realize. Calming my heart rate and staying positive even when I mess up is crucial to ensuring the right message is getting across.n n </div> n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n <b> n <font style=”color: rgb(255, 42, 173);”> n n Networking Gets Easiern n </font> n </b> n </div> n <div> n n Speaking publicly opens up a wealth of opportunities. I’ve been able to meet and connect with a vast array of people in my travels from all over the world! With that being said I’ve had many opportunities to be a guest speaker at big-name conferences, interviewed by top professionals in the industry, and continue to make connections with people who tell me that my work has impacted their lives. I would have never imagined I’d get all of this from public speaking. All of these opportunities have made me the person I am today and for all of them, I’m truly grateful. n n </div> n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n <b> n <font style=”color: rgb(255, 42, 173);”> n n Speaking Boosts Confidence n n </font> n </b> n </div> n <div> n n It’s a well-known fact that the more you practice something the easier it is. Public speaking has given me the beautiful opportunity to grow in confidence. I’m not just speaking on stage, saying a bunch of words – I actually know what I know. Years ago this would not have been the case. While I’m still the same person inside, there’s been a shift in me that has changed me for the better since I started this journey towards being a professional speaker, coach, and author. n n </div> n <div> n <br/> n </div> n <div> n n I’ve had plenty of ups and downs along this journey, but it’s only made me and my services so much better!
